Our History

Decades on the Cape Flats

Roots under apartheid sport

South African football was organised along racial lines under apartheid. While resources flowed to the all-white association, Indian, Bantu, and Coloured associations — including the SA Coloured Football Association — built leagues and clubs with far less support. Wolverhampton Sports Club was born inside that reality: a working-class club for communities forcibly relocated to the Cape Flats.

1958 — present

Established as an amateur club in Cape Town, we affiliated to the SA Coloured Football Association and kept growing despite under-investment and the everyday pressures facing township families. Post-1994, the badge stayed the same but the doors opened wider: today we are a diverse, CDFA-affiliated member of SAFA Cape Town with junior and senior teams that routinely punch above their weight in league and knockout competition.

Why it matters to sponsors

Your contribution lands inside a federated, audited club structure with national and regional affiliation — not an informal kick-about. That governance backbone is what allowed us to meet Allan & Gill Gray Philanthropy Foundation milestones and what we extend to every new partner, whether your headquarters are in Cape Town, Johannesburg, London, or further afield.

Our Impact

Community first

300+ Active members

Registered members across junior and senior programmes — a single club home for families from every part of Cape Town.

90% from underserved communities

Nine in ten members come from previously disadvantaged and gang-affected neighbourhoods including Hanover Park, Steenberg, Langa, and Lotus River. Football is the hook; structure, mentorship, and belonging are the outcome.

15 young people at Lillieblom House

We subsidise full participation for fifteen boys and girls from Lillieblom House — a home for children who have experienced abuse and neglect — so cost is never a barrier to training or match day.

Mathematics, literacy & life skills

Beyond the touchline we are building mathematics and literacy tutoring, with a roadmap to life-skills modules on peer pressure, conflict resolution, and substance abuse — so players practice good decisions with the same rigour as first touch.
